Closed for the Season

We are officially closed for the season. Last week we were able to cover the greens with tarps thanks to the Vauxhall Academy of Baseball boys volunteering to help. They sent a large contingent to assist with this and we completed the task in about 3 hours. We really appreciate the help from them especially when some of us old volunteers can’t bend as easily as we used to.

Henry, Robert and Ethan, our grounds crew, spent the last week blowing lines, servicing carts, cleaning branches, aerating fairways and tee boxes, putting “stuff” away and making sure we are in good shape to begin the 2027 golf season. Sandy, our clubhouse manager was also very happy with how the season went. High fives to all of our golf course workers the inside crew and outside crew.

I want to thank all golfers, members and non – members for coming out and enjoying our course. Your patronage has really helped us make ends meet so we can keep golf affordable for all. Besides our golfers we also have several who volunteer to help keep our course running smooth. A few come to mind – Anna Mae and Luke Wijna for cleaning out and repairing our bird houses as well as repainting the poles; Betty Jensma and Marian Van den Hoek for taking care of the flowers; Chuck Pozzo for helping us rebuild the deck and for taking care of any of our electrical needs, Ben Janz for repairing many of our golf carts and equipment, Laus Steikema for always donating dirt when grounds or tee-box improvements are needed; Susan Gutfriend and Sherry Johnson for getting our Monday Mixed nights started, Darren Skretting for helping rebuild the deck, Copperfield Colony for helping us in so many different ways such as the pig roast, cement work, making our tee – markers and many other things. I know I have missed many others who help out so thank you to those people.

I also want to give a shout out to all of those seniors who come out to golf five days a week in the mornings. We have about 3 different groups of them – John Horvath and Frank Malesan have anywhere from 4 to eight players each day, Jake Mandel and Randy Dickout and a few others, and the large contingent from King Arthurs Lake side resort. We also have a group of ladies that faithfully come out each week and our early risers from Natural Green Grocery store.

Although the course is officially closed and the greens are tarped you may still come out on nice days and play nine holes without any greens. Good exercise and it keeps your game in good shape. Start saving up so you can by memberships for the 2027 season. If anyone wants to buy memberships or punch cards for Christmas you can contact me at 403-331-3600 and we can make that happen.
